The Hong Kong Sinfonietta (香港小交響樂團), one of Hong Kong’s flagship professional orchestras, and its renowned Music Director Yip Wing-sie will be making a Toronto debut at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Koerner Hall on October 4 at 8 p.m. in a concert to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR.
Described as “one of the world’s great small orchestras”, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta is recognized mainly for its innovative programming and sell-out performances. Under the leadership of Yip Wing-sie, the orchestra has made a significant difference in the musical landscape of Hong Kong by creating a solid platform for local and Chinese artists, as well as nurturing the next generation of audiences. Giving about 100 performances a year, it has established itself as one of the signature entities for music in Hong Kong.
The October 4 concert in Toronto will be conducted by Yip Wing-sie. The program will include:

Chan Hing-yan: Twas the Thawing Wind, for sheng & orchestra (new commissioned work)
Loo Sze-wang, sheng
Sergei Prokofiev: Violin Concerto No.2 in G Minor, Op. 63
Yang Tian-wa, violin
Igor Stravinsky: Pulcinella Suite
