The Promenade Gallery in Mississauga presents Xenia of Antiquity, the first Canadian Solo exhibition of celebrated Pakistani Canadian artist Shakeel Siddiqui November 28, 2013 -December 9, 2013
“Xenia of Antiquity” celebrates the professional excellence of artist Shakeel Siddiqui as he presents his series of new works in painting and drawings. Shakeel Siddiqui is a master artist and leading practitioner of super-realism in South Asia. Marjorie Hussain, a notable art critic from Pakistan acknowledges “Shakeel Siddiqui is a super-realist who has perfected a trompe l’oeil technique so that his paintings have an uncanny faithfulness to the objects rendered. Nothing escapes his consciousness. Yet the painting is much more than a reproduction of mundane objects, there are tantalizing glimpses of a particular life, detectable clues.” He is amongst the very few artists who took up the challenge to paint in super-realism and later in new realism. Marcella Nesom Sirhandi in her book titled Contemporary Paintings in Pakistan stated, “Shakeel is the only artist in Pakistan seriously painting in new realism…and [his] technical quality is flawless, with years of detailed portraiture put to good use”.
