Filmmaker Update (US,Eh! Edition): Blair Fukumura, Jeff Chiba Stearns

Toronto-based filmmaker Blair Fukumura (Catalogue, RA 2008) is making his Hollywood debut at the 15th annual LA Shorts Fest with his new animation work, Paper World.  It screens in competition program 15 on July 24 at 1:00pm, and Fukumura is flying out to represent the piece.  Congratulations, Blair – we know you’ll look faboo on the red carpet!

The New York Times recently published an article on mixed-race artists, written by Felicia R. Lee.  In it, she profiles the Mixed Roots Film & Literary Festival, which had its fourth edition last month in Los Angeles.  Among the highlights, she name-checks One Big Hapa Family – although, strangely, not its multiple-award-winning director, Jeff Chiba Stearns. One Big Hapa Family played to a packed house at Reel Asian last year, with Stearns in attendance.
