The Sun and the Moon: The Films of Satyajit Ray runs from July 3 to August 17. An illuminating series of on-stage events that consider Ray’s contribution to world cinema and the restoration of his works by the Academy Film Archive includes screening introductions from University of Toronto Lecturer Kathleen O’Connell on Charulata, Friday, July 11 at 6:15 p.m. and the Director of the Academy Film Archive, Michael Pogorzelski on Three Daughters on Thursday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. and The Chess Players on Friday, July 18 at 6:15 p.m. Complete schedule.

Accompanying the retrospective is Passages to India: India Seen by Outsiders, a provocative sidebar series running from July 5 to 27 and surveying the work of eight European and American filmmakers whose outsiders’ visions of India range from meditative documentary to delirious Orientalist artifice.
