May is Asian Heritage Month!

May is Asian Heritage Month!  Join us and other individuals and community organizations in celebrating the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada.  In celebration of this recognition, we encourage you to participate in the many Asian Heritage Month activites taking place across the nation.  Reel Asian's May events include:

This May, Reel Asian filmmakers Leslie Supnet (Director, Gains + Losses),Stephanie Law (Director, Little Miss Jihad and 2011 So You Think You Can Pitch? winner), Albert Zablan (Director, New Home) and Althea Balmes (Director, Suman Ladies) are visiting schools in the GTA and York Region to present their films and speak about a variety of social issues and filmmaking approaches. Want to know more about our filmmakers? Read our interviews with our four filmmakers here.

This is a unique opportunity for students attending the participating schools to interact with Asian Canadian filmmakers about their creative process and to demonstrate that the film industry presents viable career opportunities.  The following schools are participating in Reel Asian's Asian Heritage Month School Tour:

  • Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Toronto
  • Bill Crothers Secondary School, Unionville
  • Thornlea Secondary School, Thornhill
  • PEAC, Toronto
  • Future Skills High School, North York
