Celebrate Asian Heritage Month!

 ahm-schooltours-600x260

May is Asian Heritage Month! Join us and other individuals & community organizations in celebrating the long, rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada. In celebration, we encourage you to participate in the many Asian Heritage Month activites taking place across the nation.  Reel Asian's May events include:

ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH SCHOOL TOUR

This May, Reel Asian filmmakers Sonia Hong (Director, Waack Revolt - A Dance Film), Lesley Loksi Chan (Director, Wanda & Miles), and Tony Lau (Director, Left-Behind Woman) are visiting schools in the GTA & York Region to present their films and speak about a variety of social issues & filmmaking approaches such as documentary, drama, and animation.

In addition to showcasing the diversity of Asian and Asian Canadian culture, the youth program will introduce youth to film as vehicles for artistic expression, and social and cultural advocacy. This is a unique opportunity for students to interact with Asian Canadian filmmakers about their creative process and thematic interests to demonstrate that the film industry presents viable career opportunities for students. The following schools are participating in Reel Asian's Asian Heritage Month School Tour:

  • Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, Toronto
  • Alexander Mackenzie High School, Richmond Hill
  • Sir Robert L. Borden Business and Technical Institute, Scarborough
  • Malvern Collegiate Institute, Toronto
  • Roden Public School, Toronto
  • Kipling Collegiate Institute, Etobicoke
  • Greenwood Secondary School, Toronto
  • Future Skills High School, North York

NOTE:  Access to the school tour presentations are restricted to registered students within the participating schools and not open to the general public.
