Reel Asian co-presents at the Toronto Korean Film Festival

The Toronto Korean Film Festival offers up an incredible line-up this year of shorts programmes and new film releases! Reel Asian is proud to co-present the Korean Shorts Competition and two other feature films that have been generating buzz amongst the film festival circuit. There will be two screenings for the Canadian premiere of Broken (dir. Lee Jung Ho), an intense crime and revenge thriller of a father piecing together the murder of his daughter.  We are also thrilled to co-present the North American premiere of the closing night film, Night Flight. See below for more information!

SYNOPSIS: With 108 submissions in total and 48 world premieres among them, the TKFF 2014 Korean Shorts competition will be the toughest one yet. Selected films will be shown during our festival on May 30th at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario), where audiences will also get to vote for their favorite.

SYNOPSIS: A father becomes the victim when he loses his only daughter, and now he has become a killer. The cold body of middle school student Su-jin is found at an abandoned public bathhouse. The father, Sang-hyeon (Jung Jae-young) is helpless in the face of his daughter’s death. And one day, Sang-hyeon receives an anonymous text message with information about the killer. At the address in the message, he finds Cheol-yong laughing while watching a video showing his daughter as she is raped and killed. After he kills Cheol-yong in a fit of rage, Sang-hyeon finds out about the existence of an accomplice and sets out to find him. Upon examining Cheol-yong's murder scene, Eok-gwan - the detective who leads the investigation into Su-jin's murder - realizes that Sang-hyeon is the killer and sets out on his trail. Trailer

SYNOPSIS: Three teenage boys who were once close friends grow apart when they go on to high school: Yong-ju lives hiding his true sexual identity, Gi-woong becomes the leader of the school gang, and Gi-taek turns into an obsessive comic book fan. Tired of the constant malicious bullying by Gi-woong’s gang, Gi-taek betrays them by disclosing that Yong-ju has been in love with Gi-woong for years. Surrounded by the insecure boundary of school and wounded by betrayals, these boys are driven into a catastrophe. Trailer
